About Fractions of amounts in AQA GCSE

To find a fraction of an amount, divide by the denominator and multiply by the numerator. For example, to find 3/4 of £80: divide 80 by 4 to get 20, then multiply by 3 to get £60. The word "of" in maths means multiply. So "3/4 of 80" means 3/4 × 80 = (3 × 80) ÷ 4 = 240 ÷ 4 = 60. Either method works. When working with money, always check your answer makes sense. Finding 3/4 of something should give you more than half but less than the whole. Finding 2/5 of something should give you less than half.
