About Order of operations (BIDMAS) in AQA GCSE

BIDMAS (or BODMAS) tells you the order in which to perform mathematical operations: Brackets, Indices (powers), Division and Multiplication (left to right), Addition and Subtraction (left to right). A common mistake is thinking multiplication always comes before division, or addition before subtraction. Actually, multiplication and division have equal priority and are done left to right, as are addition and subtraction. In AQA GCSE Maths exams, BIDMAS questions often appear as "calculator not allowed" questions where you must show clear working. Always work through calculations step by step, dealing with operations in the correct order. Show each step clearly to earn method marks even if you make an arithmetic error.
