About Percentage of an amount in AQA GCSE

There are several ways to find a percentage of an amount. The most reliable method is to convert the percentage to a decimal and multiply. For example, 35% of £80 = 0.35 × 80 = £28. For mental maths, find easy percentages and combine them. To find 35%: find 10% (divide by 10), then multiply by 3 to get 30%, then add 5% (half of 10%). So 35% of 80 = 8 + 8 + 8 + 4 = 28. When using a calculator, remember that "percent" means "per hundred" or "÷100". So 35% = 35 ÷ 100 = 0.35. Always check your answer is sensible - 35% should be about a third.
